That is certainly good advice. I don't lock my guns against my child. There is
no need. We have discussed the topic and she: understands, respects my decision,
and has never tried to disobey me on this. It would be pointless in any case, as
the guns won't fire without a bullet in the chamber or the clip and she has no
access to them.
But, I'm not stupid to think that might always be the case, or that I will
always be there to prevent her or her friends from doing something stupid, so I
have gun locks also. Nothing is fool-proof, so she is being educated in the use,
handling and characteristics of weaponry. In a controlled environment. I can do
nothing to educate all her present and future "friends".
As we say in the coding business, "software design is a battle between
programmers designing bigger and better idiot-proof programs and God who is
designing bigger and better idiots. So far God is winning."
So too this applies to guns. Whatever God you believe in is busy building bigger
and better idiots to defeat any bigger and better safety measures you may dream
up.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
