Then your article was wrong. the isn't big enough to disturb any planets to
throw them out. It was the Jupiter-Saturn pair that is believed to have tossed
Neptune into it's orbit. Those are the one's most likely to be slingshooting
anything, especially given their orbital resonance.
But, all pride, arrogance and opinions aside, we simply don't know enough to
really say much of anything, even less so to be predicting anything. Sounds like
your article was either someone's dissertation or just a reporters failed
understanding. Mercury is quite safe from our gravitational effects, even given
it's rater unstable orbit. Venus? Too big to be bullied by us. Mars? Well,
actually not a bad candidate. Rather unstable orbit.
Hadn't really considered it. The orbit of Mars actually makes it a very GOOD
candidate to be flung out. Probably throw us out of our nice orbit in the
process of throwing Mars out, would likely cause a firestorm from the asteroid
belt which the Earth would probably be spiralling towards anyway. Flinging Mars
out, would make life very interesting on Earth. Or rather death rather
