"If a well-regulated militia be the most natural
defense of
a free
country, it ought certainly to be under the
regulation and at the disposal of
that body which is
constituted the guardian of the national
security".
The FP are basically a debate used to hash out what
they
agree on. Not everything is agreed upon and made it in the
Constitution.
But throughout, a WELL REGULATED MILITIA is thought off as a
defensive force and to be called upon when needed. It is
actually no different
from long standing Swiss defensive
strategy to ensure their independence. The
idea is that if
it is too costly to invade Switzerland because their
defensive
force is all over the place it would not be worth
it. It is also quite similar
to Ex-Yugoslav defensive dogma
(of course does not work when these weapons end
up used to
fight each others).[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

You need to read that article I posted the
link to.
Back then, people kept their weapons for the
militia in a single place, an armory. They
still have armories, even in NY city.
