Would the guards even know that the shooter was armed? At least, not until he'd
reached his target and started firing.
And seeing as the standard ending to these things seems to be the shooter's
suicide, the presence of armed guards is no deterrence.
I think our gun control laws have gone mad over here, but the fact remains we
don't have (much) gun crime at all. So much so that even the Police aren't
normally allowed to carry guns :-)
Cheers,

Well, if hes carrying an assault rifle it would be a clue to
the guard/police officer not let the person in and draw
their weapon. Even if the guard/police officer doesnt stop
the person they may be able to contact other authorities or
the shots fired with the guard/police officer could alert
others to call the authorities.
But the main point of the nra's plan is it would act as a deterrent. Right now
those that would kill children in
schools know they are an easy target. If they have a gun
there is no one around that can stop them. The few police
officers I have seen assigned to schools are usually
unarmed. The fact that we have someone there who could stop
them may stop the problem from ever getting to the point of
the person at the school.
