I doubt we'll see the US DOJ do anything about that.
Hopefully the EU will step up with a big club.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Possibly game ending for Linux on X86.
- Desktop: I have not
bought a new X86 desktop this
millennium. I used to upgrade existing desktops
to reduce power consumption. These days, it is cheaper
to replace them with
ARMs. Pi's now have a reasonable
delivery date and there is a choice of A10
based
devices.
- Laptop: If Microsoft do not want me to wipe an
X86 and
install Linux then I will wipe an ARM Chromebook
and install
Linux.
- Small server: X86 are not even in the game. Pick
a router, NAS
or one of many ARM devices.
- Big server: I see lots of 'ARM servers
coming soon'
articles. I have yet to find products with a price
list. A few
companies have prototypes shipping to
selected customers. None of them mention
Windows at all.
If I needed a big server today, I would have to look
at
defeating UEFI - or buy something second hand.
- Phone: Windows on a
phone is struggling to stay
in 10th place, despite Microsoft's belief that they
need to control the phone market to stay relevant.
If Microsoft
are really determined, they might delay
Linux on new X86, but prices and power
consumption
are doing just as much to keep the Penguins away.
UEFI will create
a barrier preventing existing
Windows users from trying Linux on a new
computer,
but TIFKAM creates an equal barrier for Windows users
buying a new
computer in the first place.
