Sorry, that was a polynomial worst case vs an NP complete worst case.

So I read a scientific paper that suggests a method to do
LZW. Or RSA.
Then, if I write my own software, on my computer, for my
computer.
I then should owe somebody else royalties?
I don't think so.
If they want to protect a mathematical algorithm, they
better go the trade secret route.
Nothing stops me from reading scientific papers.
Nothing stops me from understanding the contents.
Nothing stops me from writing my own algorithms based in
whole or in part on published papers.
At least that's the way it should work, in my non-lawyerly
opinion.
My software, my efforts, no royalties for "ideas".[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
