following the rules of the mathematical system.
Not "pretending to be", but is.
A computer is nothing but the embodiment of a mathematical system into a
machine.
Therefore, anyone that properly "pretends to be a computer" is being a

1. The original discussion concerns patenting software -
the algorithms. The hardware doesn't matter.
2. I'm NOT simulating being a computer - I AM BEING A
COMPUTER! I'm doing exactly what a digital, electronic
computer does. No simulation. A computer is NOT just a
box with a screen and a keyboard. Reread what I said
earlier. The exact same program runs on a PC, a laptop, an
IBM Mainframe, my head - it's the exact same set of steps
and logic in each case. I could run it on an ENIAC, or on
an old hard-wired computer (yes, they existed, you changed
programming by rewiring) - and it's STILL the same steps in
the program. I could even custom build FPGA's to do the
logic - it's still the same set of steps.
