Mouse controlled Word Processing is the worst design effect I've seen. I've
lost count of the number of people I've observed taking their hand(s) off the
keyboard, locating the mouse, using it to highlight a small piece of text
(usually very close to the current cursor position), hit the [Delete] key (or
use mouse clicks to delete the highlighted text), relocate the keyboard, type in
a correction, relocate the mouse, point and click back at the end of the text
being typed, relocate the keyboard and continue typing; when the whole of that
could have been executed much quicker (like 2 to 5 times or more) by use of
cursor keys in combination with [CTRL] or [Shift].
Having to stretch to the screen to touch the position is just as bad. I
actually connect a mini-full size (sic) keyboard to my Tablet as it is much
quicker to use that, along with the cursor keys to type and edit text - so much
quicker that I can easily out pace the application which I have no chance of
doing with the touch screen emulated keyboard [just like typing on the
"touch sensitive" Sinclair ZX81, aka Timex 1000 that side of the
pond].[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
