The invention is only to be found in the patent claims. The Apple claims say
nothing about the algorithms necessary to detect specific gestures made at an
Apple iPhone nor the technology for multiple touch. Anyway, those are prior art
for multiple touch detecting touch displays. I have a video somewhere of Steve
Balmer demonstrating it long before the iPhone was even designed.
The patent is just about abstract gestures made at a touch screen mobile device.
As is standard for such patents, the technology including the software is
irrelevant to the invention and the patent. It is the abstract functions related
to the gesture which is the patented invention.
