I agree, although I wish it were a nicer legal firm who were doing this. I have
known several people who were involved in selling what we nicknamed "Herbal
Death", and from what I observed of their behaviour it is both a pyramid scheme
and a cult, the way their recent recruits talk showing signs of cult-type
brtainwashing. Not so sure that it is a Ponzi scheme, as I don't have visibility
of where the money goes. They are a truly obnoxious organisation, and their
operation would seem to be illegal in several countries, including the UK, but
the authorities here seem very reluctant to take action. I for one would like to
see the world rid of this particular organisation. The sad thing is that
people buy their grossly over-priced products, thinking they are getting value
for money, while all they are doing is financing a massively inefficient
distribution system. The same stuff in the supermarket would be about 20% of the
price, or less. But we have seen this behaviour before in other fields too,
where people are queuing up to buy very ordinary things at ripoff prices, e.g.
Starbucks coffee. I could mention M$ or Apple, or certain car
manufacturers..... [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Herbalife has been in trouble more than not for their entire existence. For
years they fought with the FDA over a variety of unsubstantiated health claims
they published in their sales literature. Then it was the exorbitant cost for a
membership, much of which went to the recruiter or their sponsor. They have
always been at the very edge of lawful behavior, and are frequently accused of
crossing the line. I won't associate with them or any of their
representatives.

First, I strongly suspect that this is market manipulation. It sure looks like
it,
from the information in the article. So, yes, hiring a good lawyer and going
after the manipulator is a good plan.
Second, HerbaLife products are useless, and should be avoided. I know a
lot of people who've been taken in by the advertising, and wasted money
on useless junk.
So I've got mixed feelings about this. It is a loose/loose situation for the
consumer.
