What do you mean by "not cost effective"? I'd appreciate being
pointed in useful directions on this.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

I would say that some of those who commit or contemplate suicide, they
"perceive" it would be less painful to the people around them if they
were gone. I would not say that all who contemplate suicide feel this way.
But to look at the flip side. PJ is asking me to never do it, because of all the
pain others will experience. So, it is like saying it is better for one person
to go on day after day in complete misery, living with unbearable pain and
suffering, than to subject others to a brief moment of pain and suffering, which
those people may or may not be better equipped to deal with.
A lot of it is, I believe, chemical in nature. But I also think some brains are
more wired for this personality than others. I think that some people grow up in
environments that aid the brain in forming the patterns and connections that
reinforce systemic depression and suicidal tendencies.
But these are just my hypotheses, based on my own experiences. I am almost
always depressed. There are brief flashes in my days where I can be really
happy. You can't probably imagine how ecstatic those moments are for me (I am
not manic-depressive, but I am severely AD). The silliest and simplest things
can trigger these flashes of happiness. But for the most part, my life is a
living nightmare, which I can't really share. Because, if I did, I'm sure I'd be
institutionalized. To "protect me from myself".
I hate sleeping, because sleeping means nightmares. So I'm constantly near that
edge of sleep deprivation, being careful not to go over the edge. For that way
lies monsters.
I am thankful that years ago I learned deep meditation. I'm sure, I would not be
here today if not for that. But what works for me probably doesn't for others.
