Apple seem to subscribe to the "might is right"
philosophy (as per Ragnar Redbeard or Heinlein - "Starship Troopers").
It is OK to force a competitor out of business (i.e. Lala)
because, hey, they are smaller and we need to preserve our (gigantic) market
share!

Which tends to tarnish their reputation. Apple's reputation is still good
enough to take it. Microsoft, well...

Last I checked, Linux was not a Monopoly (even in weighting) on pc-type
devices.
Granted, Android has done really well and has Linux at it's
heart. But I'm not sure Android would be considered a Monopoly under the Law
even isolated to the smartphone market.
