"you seemed to be saying that the merchant was the aggressor
asking for a pound of flesh."
Yes, I did.
The Merchant of Venice is a Shakespeare drama from about 1596 as per Wikipedia.

the mistake of thinking Shylock to be the aggressive Merchant. This is stated
and clarified in Wikipedia:
"The title character is the merchant Antonio, not the Jewish moneylender
Shylock, who is the play's most prominent and most famous character. This is
made explicit by the title page of the first quarto: The most excellent History
of the Merchant of Venice. With the extreme cruelty of Shylock the Jew towards
the Merchant...."

Merchant of Malice seems a very convenient, though inaccurate metaphor to
describe the patent aggressor in this case, so I just went ahead.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
