So could you likewise understand if a car company or bank had a digital lock on
your car or house?
}
With a car or home, the lender has a lien on it, until it's paid off. I cannot
sell them without the debt being cleared or at least transferred to the
satisfaction of the lender.

DRM is encryption where the end user/owner does not have
control over what they supposedly own.
Be careful of whom you
ascribe to being the owner. With DRM infected content the end user and owner
are NOT the same.
With DRM the onwer of the encrypted content
is still the body that originated it; you have merely purchased a licence
to access said content; that licence is not encrypted with DRM.
Once
you stop believing the advertising and look at the reality of what is being
sold: "Own it on DVD or BluRay NOW!" really means "You may have this copy of the
content encrypted with DRM (like on loan) but you do NOT own it; you have
actually purchased a licence that allows you access to it; the representation of
the licence is embodied in the physical disc." If the advertising was properly
accurate, then there would be less fuss over DRM and less piracy (sic). [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Some auto lenders
already do.
