I'm currently taking an online course that requires Java. Fortunately, it works
fine with Firefox on Linux.

What we found out and what is a subject of a new security
vulnerability (Issue 53) is that unsigned Java code can be successfully
executed
on a target Windows system regardless of the four Java Control Panel
settings
described above. seclists.org
They
don't say if they targeted other systems. Usually on seclists if a
targeted system
is found not vulnerable this will be disclosed. It was common
knowledge at the
time of the latest Oracle-Java patch there were more than one
outstanding
vulnerability and Oracle did not patch all of them.
