All the way for Python between those two. RealBasic will
never be adopted by Microsoft, Google, etc. whereas Python
is a big language with Google (for instance, Google App
Engine allows it as a first class language).
You can easily get a web host that will allow you to use
Python, but I've never seen RealBasic on any of them (and I
am a web developer both professionally and as a hobby). Try
googling "python web hosting" vs "RealBasic web hosting".
Python works great on Android with the ASE (Google Scripting
Layer for Android) but I've not seen any way to use BASIC-
anything on Android.
Also, Python is open and runs on Mac, Linux, Windows, etc.
As a professional Microsoft dev, all of their flavors of
basic are proprietary. They wont be ported or shared to
other platforms or software with the exception of VB.NET,
which is only because .NET is allowed to be cross platform.
Definitely, absolutely go Python. It's great for beginners.
You can even use IronPython if you have a license of Visual
Studio and want to go .NET.
Finally, as has been said, there's a huge community for
Python that you'll never see for RealBasic. Basic is a place
to start for a beginner programmer (very controversial as to
whether it is a good place to start). If you are doing real
programming, you should switch to something with a big
community / interoperability / supported by more than just
one small 3rd party.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
