That's because both of them were influenced by "The Hero with a Thousand
Faces" by Joseph Campbell.

"George Lucas' deliberate use of Campbell's theory of the monomyth in the
making of the Star Wars movies is well documented."
"Many scholars and reviewers have noted how closely J. K. Rowling's popular
Harry Potter books hewed to the monomyth schema.[17] To date, however, Rowling
has neither confirmed that she used Campbell's work as an inspiration, nor
denied that she ever read The Hero with a Thousand Faces."

Campbell, The Hero With a Thousand Faces.
IIRC Lucas admitted somewhere that Star Wars was a direct mapping of
the Hero's Journey into a space setting. It wasn't any more original of an
idea than Harry Potter was.
Fortunately, copyright law only protects expression, not "ideas" and
not
APIs expressly designed for interoperability between the software code
written by different programmers.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
