I don't know about the battery directive, but I have read the
teardown article in Fixit.
If the concern is recycling, no problem. It is possible to
get the battery out of the unit. You just can't put the unit
back together again in workable condition.

I gather most Apple products have built-in obsolescence with sealed-in batteries
