I have heard American journalist claiming that. Have any Russians claimed it? [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

From a New Zealand point of view.
Meteors 1: The Russian one.
Meteors 2: Asteroid 2012 DA14 skimmed pass Earth at 27 000 kilometers, near
Indonesia this morning (NZ time - closest was 19.30 GMT 15 Feb).
Geostationary Satellites are at 35 000 km. No view from NZ as overcast. A
small one about the size of swimming pool.
Query: both part of a bigger meteor that broke up? or part of a meteor shower?
Or just a coincidence?
Meteors 3: Maybe a coincidence as news of 2012 DA14 was announced a month or so
back but last night on NZ TV a movie was "Deep Impact". O.K. it was a
Comet rather than meteor but same story, on-line to impact earth but the hero's
saved the Earth (mostly) by committing suicide in destroying it.
