And different distros appeal to different people. Or usage scenarios. I'd say I
have three main distros I use ...
Slackware. In my toolkit as my emergency "works anywhere" distro. I've
been bitten too often by LiveCDs where X crashed on boot and left the machine
unusable. Not a good idea when you're trying to recover the installed OS which
is in a similar state ...
OpenSUSE. I've always been a SuSE guy, I can't stand deb-based distros, they
always seem to bite me at inopportune moments, and this is the distro I install
on other peoples' systems I support.
Gentoo. I got fed up trying to install dev versions of apps, only to get bitten
by bleeding-edge dependencies. Gentoo being a bleeding-edge distro (if you
choose), it makes keeping a dev system up-to-date a lot easier.
And I'm sure other people have equally eclectic collections of distros for
various reasons.
