Either vendors or OEM are selling laptops with Win8 downgrade rights to
Win7. For some organizations, downgrade rights to WinXP are available!

> are the vendors reconfiguring the desktops before sale

I think not, I think the advertisers are reconfiguring the photos after
realising that the Windows 8 'Metro' screen puts buyers off.

I stopped by the shop today and finally got to try one. Switching to the normal
desktop is one click, most of the laptops I tried didn't respond to touch. Once
on the desktop it looked like windows 7. Reading online there are several
options to make the change permanent, just not from Microsoft. But I bought the
Nexus 7 and may pick up a chrome book when I find one.
