So, as I recall, did the MicroVax II that I had in my office at the university,
which had been donated o us by Bell Labs when it was closed down. That machine
had AT&T UNIX, version 10 on it. Version 10 was a "research"
version, not a public release, and, I understand it was used only at Bell Labs.
I am also pretty sure that this feature was available in DOS 5.0 which was on
the first PC that I bought, a 386, back in 1991. If it was not in DOS 5.0, then
for sure it was in some add-on package which was installed at about the same
time.
There must be something else to this patent besides the use of command history.
It is hard to believe that even the USPTO could be so stupid as to let someone
patent the mere use of storing and recalling a command history, so late as 1998.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Correction, VMS 3.3 would be 1984 or earlier.
