At least, those prosecutors who really want to help Society.
If the wikipedia
article is correct, the murder occurred in 1986.
The main article
indicates another man has been implicated in both that murder and another murder
in 1988.
I really don't know if wrong-doing on behalf of the prosecutor
was actually involved.
But I do know, if I was the prosecutor finding out
that I was responible for the conviction of an innocent man while the murderer
ran free to commit at least one more murder - I'd feel absolutely horrible with
myself.
That's actually the main reason I decided not to get involved in
Law. I asked myself two questions:
If I was a defense attorney, could I
handle getting a person actually guilty of a crime acquitted of that
crime?
And the converse:
If I was a prosecutor, could I handle
convicting an innocent?
I didn't think I'd like either of those two
situations at all. I still think I wouldn't handle them every well. I have a
strong sense of guilt and as a result I'm inclined to make amends well above
what would otherwise be reasonable.
If I was Mr. Ken Anderson and I
really had been .... err ... loose with the evidence. I think I'd be in rather
deep introspective thought about which of the two evils I'd rather be
responsible for:
Letting a murderer roam free to murder again while
convicting an innocent!
Being sure not to convict an innocent and maybe
let a murderer roam free to murder again!
