Well, buying things isn't what thinking men
traditionally used search engines to do,
so he wasn't talking about that. But if you
search for a product, why is it off the wall
for Google to show you companies willing to
sell the product to you? It's what most
people would want, where ads are essentially
more information that you've indicated you
might be looking for.
These days, a lot of people do use the Internet
for that, so they do stuff to help them find
what they want. It's just as legitimate to
serve them as to serve you, particularly when
you certainly know how to find what you want
and they don't.
So to me, it's a smear campaign, frankly, and
I'm not surprised it's showing up here on
Groklaw too.
Microsoft has a group that does nothing all
day for Microsoft but say bad things about
Google, the Scroogled junk being Ex. A.
So be more alert for dirty tricks trying to
make you think things are worse than they are,
if they are at all.
I have no trouble finding things using Google,
frankly, and it's a lot easier than before there
was a Google.
The only trouble I have is when companies decide
they'll sue Google if they show me what I'm
looking for.
As for news, he isn't saying they are distorting it.
He's saying his highly specialized needs are not
easily being met. Most people don't use the news
the way he does, but even then he certainly can
find what he's looking for using Google.
Why in the world would they make it easy for him
if it makes it harder for a larger group of people
who want something else?
It's ridiculous.
How things are organized is up to Google. Use someone
else's search engine if you don't like it. Google
owes you absolutely nothing. And do you not
recall what it was like trying to find information
on the Internet before Google? It's clearly easier.
You like the old Google better than today? SO what?
Use something else, or tell them your views if you
wish to be heard. Whining about Google on some
message board isn't productive, and when it's not
fair, you can believe that I will answer. I've been
the victim of a smear campaign, and I know what it
feels like. So when I see others being smeared, I
will speak out.

But Google isn't a news service, they're a search engine that delivers news, but
its news that originates elsewhere.
Any bias would seem to be due to the news provider, or to an inappropriate
search. How is that google's fault?
(And do you think that bypassing google will make the news any less biased? As
long as the bulk of mainstream media is owned by corporate interests with paid
political connections, the best you can hope for is to pick your biases....)
Personally, I agree... google isn't a good news source. But then, I don't try
to use it as one. There are many ways to get/configure news feeds on the web.
Try a few.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
