My experience is that ClamAV doesn't run as efficiently in Windows. It can
really hammer the processor sometimes; the processor use isn't the only factor
though, sometimes it's hammering the hard disk, which task manager in Windows 7
doesn't show- you can use Process Explorer from sysinternals (free Microsoft
tool) to see this. Generally the free Microsoft Security Essentials runs better
for basic antivirus stuff (you can download for Windows 7 and earlier; Windows 8
uses Windows Defender instead, and already has it loaded).

Man. That I know this should tell you the horrors I've seen, heheh.

Hardware or Software?

A previous Newspick pointed to the Number One laptop for Windows as a MacBookPro 13". The detailed report noted an "average" boot time of 151 seconds for this model. The methodolgy didn't specify which version of Windows, the screenshots looked Win7ish, yet they said
their OS was installed in the past 12 months (because we wanted to focus on laptops available for purchase on the market today).
The average boot time for the ten models they listed was 136 seconds, with their MacBookPro 15" number six choice a suspiciously snappy 57 seconds. It must have been Win 7, and all the others Win 8. The only Macs I ever saw that took more than two minutes to boot Windows were running Vista, and had to pull group profiles from a building up the street. I've just booted Win7Pro on an Asus EeePC from Power On to useful desktop 88 seconds including leaving Grub to timeout 5 seconds, and entering password.
