Neither system works. One makes sufficient profits for a small group of its
members to it can afford to promote itself as being the better of the two when
that small group would object strongly if the basic tenants of the theory were
implemented.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Those who (supposedly) through their own labor, skill and/or luck have managed
to lift themselves up over the masses tend to forget that those masses are the
foundation on which they were given room, opportunity, and the freedom to
acquire the necessary skill and opportunity to advance themselves.
Furthermore, if those so privileged had not had access to (cheap) surplus labour
to supply the time, hands and muscles necessary for performing the work leading
to their accumulation of wealth, they would have had neither time nor energy to
acquire said wealth themselves.
In this far from perfect world, those who amass a fortune tend to jealously
guard their holdings and expend great energy and creativity to avoid
contributing back to the very society that nursed them, misguidedly seeing this
as 'theft'.
In the British Virgin Islands *alone* are trillions of Dollars hidden;
unproductively tucked away from unwillingness to contribute to the common
good.
