Most of them are "just doing their jobs" and "just following
orders". And their
jobs happen to include killing children in cold blood.
Then there's the people giving the orders.
I would like to remind everyone that no court has ever accepted "just
following
orders" as a legitimate excuse, and then I'm going to quote a film, who's
writer
was far more eloquent than I can be:
"Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your
keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men
of power. When you stand before God, you cannot say, "But I was told by
others to do thus," or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This
will not
suffice."[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Not because the idea of government is necessarily evil, but because it is a
monopoly on coercion. And for all the reasons that "monopolies" are
called bad, this monopoly is no exception.
Those who are corruptable gravitate to the power and Sovereign Immunity that is
govt service. In no other field does one's personal action NOT imply liability
for the results of those actions.
Only the most politically embarrassing actions are investigated, and fewer than
that prosecuted. Perjury by govt officials, from the common policeman to the
President of the US is not just rampant, it's institutional.
And there is nothing that can be done about it, because they ARE the cops, the
prosecutors, and the judges.
Anyone who read the Declaration of Independence today would think that, except
for the linguistic variation over time, that it was written about the Empire of
the United States, and it's occupied territory, the 50 "sovereign"
states.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
