I've said it before, and I'll say it again. So long as MS keeps the deals
secret, it's best to assume that MS is paying more than they are getting on
most, if not all of them.
MS goes to these companies and threatens to sue them over patents unless they
make a deal. They company threatens to counter sue and MS agrees to license
their patents for more than the other people have to pay MS. The main kicker is
MS demands non-disclosure. It's all MS really cares about.
So MS gets a big boost to revenue. The real question is how is MS doing profit
wise. But this is MS we are talking about, so it's not safe to assume they are
not pulling an Enron and hiding liabilities somewhere off of their balance
sheet. That means you can't trust anything in their annual reports.
This is just MS buying marketing FUD. Funny thing is FUD doesn't seem to be
working anymore. MS can scream about patents all they want and the rest of the
world goes on and ignores them. Look at what happened when Barnes and Noble
actually stood up to them. MS folded pretty fast and paid B&N off.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
