Can extensions be applied for?

It's more squishy than that, from reading the whole
thing. Six months to reply doesn't mean the USPTO

The applicant has up to six months to file a response to the final Office Action
and for the Office to issue an Advisory Action. The applicant has up to 3
months to file a response without a late fee. Each month after that costs
money.
If the applicant does not allow enough of the six months for the office to
respond, they then have to file a notice of appeal to keep the application
alive, that buys another 2 months. Somewhere in there the office can allow the
application if something in the response is found persuasive, or maintain the
rejections. If the rejections are maintained, the applicant can file an appeal.
The appeal process is currently talking 2 - 4 years.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
