As for the iPad users not being able to type
}
I have a computer, tablet and smart phone. Each has it's strengths and
weaknesses. However, I wouldn't want to create complex documents on my table or
phone. Some tasks really need a proper desktop or at least notebook computer.
Incidentally, some Android tablets are available with detachable keyboard.
Also, a friend of mine uses a Bluetooth keyboard with his tablet. Then there's
also the question of sufficient CPU power and memory required to run an office
suite and the implications for battery life.
Bottom line, a tablet may be fine for short notes, but I sure wouldn't want to
write a book on one.

So it happened on my wife's tablet, causing an emergency, "be late for
work" helpdesk action from me...
The google "mail" app wanted to attach pictures, but not the documents
she had written last week. So I worked around it...went to the website, and
from there was able to attach files as soon as I was able to sit down and play
for a minute or two.
Now, as for my iPad, it's still in La-La land, not rebooting after a week in my
car with no charger and waiting for me to feel like fooling with it some more.
Why this low-battery condition should have caused it to lose its mind is a
complete mystery -- maybe those gigs of ram in there are actually STATIC ram or
dynamic ram instead of flash???? The beast always did pop me out of Chrome
unexpectedly about every day...and even pop me out of offical apple apps, like
the book reader.
So yeah, I'm a little frustrated with my iPad...but dear Bill, there's no way
the solution involves Microsoft!

But a lot of those users are frustrated, they can't type, they can't
create documents. They don't have Office there.
Keyboards are
available for the market leading tablets. Microsoft has nothing unique here.
Bill Gates has clearly fallen out of touch with the modern world of computing.
As for MS Office, who cares? MS Word is all about formatting text for
printing out on paper. If everyone has tablets, why would you want to do that
anymore? Again, Gates and Microsoft are clearly baffled by this new fangled
modern technology. Next they'll be asking us where's the hopper for the punch
cards?

to the question "How big of a problem is China?" It's 92pp, 3.4MB, PDF and a
wierd combination of typefaces and colors, from the Office of the Secretary of
Defense, titled Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s
Republic of China 2013
Annual Report
to Congress

Bill Gates talking about Apple user's frustrations?
That's rich... does he realize that frustration with Microsoft is probably one
of the primary drivers of Apple's success in recent years.
Bill's industry wisdom is sounding more and more like Rodney Dangerfield...[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
