Cynical old me thinks that this *just might* have something to do with
a Canonical business plan to monetize Ubuntu.
Ubuntu is an ancient african word, meaning "I can't configure Debian"
(Urban Dictionary)

When a company starts trying to reinvent the wheel, they're either going for
lock-in or are going to revolutionise the world.
Given Unity, I suspect the former.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Darwinian competition and selection is driving Free and Open Source
Software development at rates the proprietary companies have no chance
of meeting. Having another package manager is a huge positive.

I'm in the process of installing a new Gentoo. It finally has a use flag I
can set for Mono:
-mono
Perhaps Canonical will drop the idea of
automatically forcing mono on people who don't want it. If they're going to
reinvent the wheel, it'd be a nice change.
