8"x11" sheet of paper at 300pdi = 8Mpx
C'mon, who needs more than that for laughing cat pix?

Film, and the way it's developed, has a lot more to do with
resolution than the camera.
Back in the day Kodak Tri-X Pan was my film of choice. I
shot it at 400 ASA and developed it using Dexol (a common
developer) under normal time and temp. Even under the best
conditions, a 35 mm negative developed in this way and
enlarged to 8" X 10" would show grain.
IMO they show more grain than an 8 meg image I have that are
enlarged to the same size. My film equipment is not cheap
stuff, by the way: Nikkormat bodies w. mostly Nikkor lenses.
Were you to use a hotter developer to push the film to 800 or
even 1600 ASA the resulting negs would be grainy indeed.
On the other hand, a film like Panatomic-X shot at ASA 100
and developed in Accufine would give you incredibly silky-
smooth images.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
