From my understanding of the GM seeds:
Their designed to be resistant to
glyphosates
As a result, if you use their seeds, you can use glyphosates to
kill all other plant life more freely without worrying about your
crop.
The seeds don't replace the requirement for Roundup - they enhance
the usage thereof.

Maybe I'm wrong, but from what I read the decision was not
directly about patents, but about contracts.
Looks like the farmer had a contract with Mon$anto that
prohibited *that farmer* from acquiring Mo$o seeds except
through Mn$to. As they got Mo$o seeds through the grain
coop, and knowingly refined them (literally weeding out the
non-Mo$o seeds), they were in breach of *contract*.
The Court did not even mention patents or patents validity.
If I'm completely off pray set me right...
