They have the new one ("Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield")
already, and from what I've read, they intended to phase out
Roundup Ready in favor of the new one around last year; in
fact, all the licenses were set to run out soon enough to
prevent anyone saving the seed. But as soon as Pioneer
brought that up, Monsanto realized that it looked too bad
from a PR perspective, extended all the licenses through
2014, pledged to not enforce varietal patents for Roundup
Ready crops after 2014, and then started accusing Pioneer of
FUD...
Or that's what the whole thing looked like to me, from what I
