Yup.
A couple of interesting facts. In countries where guns are freely available, I
believe the majority of victims are killed by their own (or a family) gun.
In the UK, where gun ownership is imho excessively controlled, we have very
little gun crime. Most criminals carry knives, and where they do carry guns it's
mostly turf wars.
Going to the opposite extreme, where pretty much every household has an
automatic rifle, namely Switzerland, they likewise have pretty much no gun
crime.
It's probably the easy access to guns that causes the problems - in England even
possession is usually an imprisonable offence and because import is reasonably
well controlled they aren't that available.
And in Switzerland they are only available to trained reservists. The fact that
that is almost all males doesn't alter the fact they have compulsory training
etc beforehand.
In North America the problem is that pretty much anybody can get their hands on
a gun whether they are trained or suitable or what.
Cheers,
