I don't think it's paranoia necessarily. I think it's mostly desperation.
Apple (the patent troll), started suing out of desperation. (Greed is also
involved.) Apple's whole sales model was based on overpricing and selling to
cultists who would buy at any price. With competition that out innovates them
and often sells for less, Apple's sales model is tanking.
That's why there's so much speculation about whether Apple will come out with a
"cheap" iPhone and why their stock is going down.
At this point they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. Release cheap
phones to bring their numbers back up and their margins take a hit. Don't come
out with a cheap phone and sales continue to fall behind Android. Either way
the investors aren't happy.
Apple is desperately trying to put the genie back in the bottle. They want to
continue to overprice their products and not worry about competition.
It's not going happen and the longer they're fixated on suing instead of
innovating they're just going to fall further behind.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
