should answer all your questions. Ethernet is the exchange of packets. These
packets are 'addressed' to the device needing that data. The means of
transportation or form of connectivity doesn't matter.

Modern cell sites are entirely Ethernet. I have experience doing some work for
a couple of Canadian cell carriers and they're all Ethernet, be it via fibre or
short haul microwave. The radio equipment connects to an Ethernet switch and
then via microwave or fibre link for backhaul.

I know "(a)ether" is obsolete/dismissed by physics tests.
(just like phlogiston)

But "ether" fits more the wireless then the wired connection.

and the networks guys always went jibbery around us because
we were 30 feet further away than the legal limit from our
thick-net tap. Just because it's all fiber now doesn't stop
them pulling plugs out with cables caught in doors ...
