1998? Both Sokoban and Pengo came out in 1982 and were probably not the first
of that kind.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Using this patent against HTC was at least applicable.
But since then Android has had no "unlock image" that moves under the
finger. At least, my Galaxy S3 certainly doesn't, unless you count the
notifications bar, which is available while locked. Selecting a notification on
that panel does have the effect of unlocking the phone. But the image that is
moved does not exist until the finger starts to move. Either way, I think
Samsung could argue that they were not infringing.
Of course it would be a whole lot better if this idiotic patent was just shot in
the head.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Isn't that what a key does when you use it to unlock a door?
Oh, this is
different because it's on a computer. Well then, doesn't that
just make all the difference in the world.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Just a bar tab. That is, the bartender / tavern owner / shop owner recognizes
you, and accepts your request to buy as also a promise to pay - put it on my
tab...
One-click is a simulation of a bar tab, and as a process spec, is abstract, also
not new, and obvious to one skilled in the art of defining user experiences.
One-click is an application of ...wait for it... Cookies!, and standard web
protocol. One-click is not new, and is obvious to a code-author skilled in the
art of creating web page user experiences.
Most software innovation (speaking as a programmer/designer/etc) is just
writing a spec for some user experience, often informed by some real world
scenario, and then applying standard text book design patterns and reusable code
until done.
Bah.
Abstract is not patentable. Software, gene info, process patents, etc, as *we*
know, all abstract...
