People often forget that Google and Apple are playing the
same game with different goals in mind. Apple strives to
maximize profitability in hardware sales. Google, on the
other hand, is striving for maximum market share, providing
the most users for its services. This is a rare, if not
unique, war where both Apple and Google can win, and that
seems to be very confusing to people.

Apple and Google make money in different ways from both market share and
services in those markets. Constantly drawing an either/or picture distorts the
different aims of the companies. Google wins because of market share. Apple
wins because of margin on product. That makes comparisons very difficult.
Especially contorted statistics. Torture a number long enough and it will
confess to anything.
This is a hack piece for Apple fans. Nothing more. Fancy market measures taken
out of context or misapplied prove nothing. If you don't like market share,
look at market valuation.
