I don't live in the US and that isn't the case here, at least
with the hospitals I've been to. Regardless, don't they have
to take anyone who will die otherwise? Just shoot yourself in

That literally depends upon which hospital one visits, and the time
of day that one visits it.
Some hospitals require the visitor to set an appointment. Fail to
show up in person, and you will get a visit from local law
enforcement.
Some hospitals require visitors to sign in on weekends, but not
weekdays.
Some hospitals restrict visiting hours.
Some hospitals literally have no policy one way or the other
about visitors or visiting hours.
These policies, or lack thereof, are correlated with location, and
