Both these well-documented actions by the Conservative government, and the mindless fawning run-on response you reference sound like a death sentence to sanity.

The Conservative government has somehow managed to avoid any lasting effects, even given confirmation of irregularities during the last election. Hopefully the current Senate spending scandal sticks... like doggy doo on the bottom of Steven Harper's shoe.

That article failed to mention he an active member of the Christian and
Missionary Alliance, a fundamentalist, evangelical church and so is generally
opposed to science. He also has a long history of doing all he can to take from
the general population, in favour of supporting business. For example, there
was a big stink recently about the Royal Bank of Canada, firing existing
employees to make room for new hires from India. They were doing this because
the Harper government first expanded the foreign worker from from mainly
agriculture to just about every area of work and then allowing the employers to
pay 15% less than the going rate for Canadians. Even lawyers and accountants
are now falling victim to this policy. He has made many other attacks on the
general workforce over the years. On the other hand, he trying to avoid the
fallout from a senator's expenses scandal, where somehow his office made an
illegal payment (some $90K) to that senator, yet he knew nothing about it. The
list goes on.
