TBF much of MacOS has been unix-like along with other Unix like offerings coming
out of apple NextStep/OpenStep.
Also worth remembering that much of the Unix API is in fact the POSIX API.

*cough* OS X is based on the BSD variant that came over with
Stevie Ray Jobs when Apple acquired NeXT.

Well, I dunno when the Wintel alliance took over the mainstream, but for most of
the 80s there WAS NO mainstream for Apple to be significantly different from!
The 80s were the heyday of the minicomputer - Wang, DEC, Pr1me, I'm sure others
can add to the list ...
And even the Intel PCs (if you can call them that) were somewhat incompatible
with each other - I can remember the Apricot floating around in the mid 80s, the
Apple II was still around, I remember working on a couple of TRS-80s ...
I think the clone wars only started in the mid-to-late 80s - I'm sure someone
will correct me if I'm wrong :-)
Cheers,
