It is the loss of the understanding of the fundamentals that has caused all the
problems.
The gossip chain of failure - lawyers interpreting what "programmers"
in a 4GL say about what they do... And the programmers don't know either as they
interpret what instructors in the "latest thing" try to get across
without going into detail... Thus isolation of the mathematical underpinning
from reality... and the lawyers don't even know they don't know, so make rules

I actually had a Java programmer tell me they couldn't debug thier code
because their GUI tool was broken.
I asked:
Can you view the source
in a text editor?
Response:
Yea... but what good does that
do?
Laughing I said:
If you can't debug - it's not because your GUI
tool is broken!
