While Microsoft is at it, they need to get some *real* MBAs. Or PHBs.
You know, the kind that have lots of book learnin' but don't know anything about
the business. The kind that make great short term decisions and pat each other
on the back.
First to go should be any kind of free, cheap or discounted development tools.
Why should developers get to build for free or cheap off of Microsoft's precious
development platform that Microsoft has invested Billions of dollars in. Vista
alone was the product of $9 Billion. (That's more than some countries' space
program.) (No idea what Windows 8 cost.)
Make developers pay for those tools. After all, developers should be a direct
revenue source. They should not be coddled and courted as though Microsoft is
trying to attract them. It should be the other way around. You want to write
for Windows 8 -- then pay for the privilege.
Maybe Microsoft can get into a development tools price hike war with Apple?
