It’s an approach wedded to a broader view of governmental powers and
more trust that government will execute those powers in good faith, says Mr.
Seamon.
Scalia is totally right on this one. The bill of rights
was created specifically by the framers and first Congress because they did
not "trust that government will execute those powers in good faith"! [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

"THE New Digital Age" is a startlingly clear and provocative
blueprint for technocratic imperialism, from two of its leading witch doctors,
Eric Schmidt and Jared Cohen, who construct a new idiom for United States global
power in the 21st century. This idiom reflects the ever closer union between the
State Department and Silicon Valley, as personified by Mr. Schmidt, the
executive chairman of Google, and Mr. Cohen, a former adviser to Condoleezza
Rice and Hillary Clinton who is now director of Google
Ideas.
by Julian Assange
Brilliantly written, getting
"outstanding," "right on" comments from such places as BoingBoing and
dailyKOS
Does a lot to puncture the "google is infallible" stereotype
floating around here and elsewhere. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

GuardianThe internet is still a relatively young
technology. It brings enormous
benefits to citizens everywhere and is a great
force for economic and social development. The UK
has rightly positioned itself
as a leading digital nation.
Bingo! The last sentence betrays the
tribal mentality that cannot understand the internet is
everywhere, and it is
nowhere. Yes, this letter was written by internet companies, greasing up to a
government that does not grok the 'net. Governments still cling to their primal
origins, regarding all
who are not around our campfire as enemy. This is the
same pettiness
that is now persecuting Bradley Manning. There can be no
leading digital nation. Our
campfire now encircles the planet. If
governments cannot accept this they are in danger of being
replaced by the
gypsies, Google, Facebook et al. I don't know which is the greater evil.

From September to today, the number of conversations on social
channels about iPhones has declined for two of the company’s target audiences:
Baby Boomers and Generation Xers.
The number of
conversations through the social web only tell one aspect of the story, however.
A more telling aspect can be seen by looking at purchase intent among the key
Millennials and teens demographics.
Purchase intent for these consumers,
despite an expected spike around Christmas 2012, has suffered a sharp decline in
the last nine months.
