True, but answer me this: when was the last time you saw a (left-hand drive,
anyway) car where the gas pedal was not to the right of the brake pedal
and where you didn't turn the steering wheel in the direction you wanted
to turn the car? They pop up in certain niches for specific purposes (eg. mail
trucks, heavy equipment), but outside of those they're rarities. That's because
people don't want to have to learn a completely different convention for the
placement of basic controls for every different make of car out there. They'd
rather settle on a standard and follow that everywhere. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

My impression was that pedal arrangements are always :
* Accelerator;
* Brake;
* Clutch;
With the left foot on the accelerator, and the right foot for the
clutch, or brake;
