That is the point - there is no technical reason or creative reason certain
"interfaces" are the way they are. It is just a convention that makes things
easier for people. Thus they really should not be subject to any kind of
copyright.
There is no societal gain for different interfaces, and no reason
to -encourage- a bunch of different ones. It makes it harder for everyone. All
copyright on interfaces would do is discourage creative work by limiting the
collaboration.

Actually, in relation to the steering wheel, there is.
Imagine trying to drive a car where you turn the wheel right
to go left.
