Non-technical explanation...
Authored by: Gringo_ on Thursday, June 06 2013 @ 09:02 AM EDT

For those of you who are not technically trianed, let me explain this more simply. This patent represents nothing but an idea, such as this wiley coyote comes up with in every episode. Only, with the wiley coyote's inventions we get to see the actual implementation. The patent under discussion remains mute on these details.

Routing protocols, reinvented
Authored by: jjs on Thursday, June 06 2013 @ 08:57 PM EDT
This is basically what such algorithms as BGP, EGP, IGP,
OSPF, and other routing protocols do - use various
calculations on link cost to figure out the best (for some
definition of best) route to send data to another system.

OSPFv2 dates back to 1991 (RFC 1247) - v1 is old enough it's
only in postscript format, but it goes back to RFC 1131 in
1989.

Priority Date, Filing Date, Publication Date

Strikes me the filing date should be no more than one year
after the priority date. If it's because of "continuations"
that's proof that continuations should NOT be allowed. If
they have something to add to the patent, that means it's
another patent.
