People store their private information on their computers.
Businesses store their data data on their computers.
Business data can contain other peoples private information.
Business's have a legal obligation to protect their data.
And theft and loss happens.
Identity theft is a growing problem.
So it's not difficult, even for the less imaginative, to understand why people
encrypt their disk drives?
You may not care if some dumb lowlife thief steals your laptop or desktop but
many do, and this does not mean they have something to hide.
Oh, and if you read, you should remember that a UK council was recently given a
heavy fine for not encrypting rate payers personal data contained on an
employees laptop which was lost/stolen... So if only to protect ones self from
heavy fines, encryption is useful..[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
