If we accept this without a guaranty, how long will it take
before data being asked/used before court to establish
something not related to crime at all. How long before we
see some leaking to the press. What has the government
really be able to keep secret in the past? How long before
there is some collusion between the sensation press, for
them it is a goldmine, and the eavesdroppers. What did
really happen in the UK between the Sun and police
officials. When will we see some political misuse, it is
that more sophisticated and easy than what Nixon's team did.
OK, data want to be free and trying to restrict it will fail
again and again.
But without any guaranty, any strong consequences for those
